SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

During the past decade, Dr. Calderón’s research diversified by returning to his scientific roots in organic chemistry, microscopic anatomy, physiology research, and cell molecular biology. He is merging this knowledge and experience with his Afro-Puerto Rican cultural roots where botanicals and other sources of natural healing were used to treat health conditions and chronic diseases. The underpinning of this research is to evaluate effective treatments for chronic diseases, such as diabetes and cancer, by restoring and potentiating the ability of cells and tissues to fight the onset of disease, by bolstering immunity and normalizing oxidative stress, which is key to prevention and treatment.

Dr. Calderón designed and developed a clinical trial to evaluate the effect of botanical antioxidants on the severity of acne, skin hydration, and the quality-of-life of people with acne. This research was approved by the UCLA Clinical Science Translational Institute, Scientific Review Committee, and the UCLA Institutional Review Board. He recently completed a four-year tenure as Advisory Board Chairman for Flavocure Biotech, Baltimore, MD, that teamed with scientists from Harvard Medical School and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine to conduct research on the use of cannabis flavonoids to treat pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Calderón continues his research to formulate naturally sourced nutritional supplements to improve skin conditions. He currently holds a patent-pending with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office related to the use of a holistic and natural formulation to treat skin diseases such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis.
