HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH

As a physician/researcher Dr. Calderón has been funded to conduct twelve research projects by the National Institutes on Aging, Department of Health and Human Services, Agency for Healthcare Research Quality, and the National Center for Research Resources/National Institutes of Health. His research focused on public and population health, health communication, health literacy, improving measurement of healthcare quality, and the comparative effectiveness of healthcare quality across healthcare institutions.

The underpinning of this research was to investigate ways to mitigate health disparities among impoverished communities regardless of race, ethnicity, or national origin. His research on the use of animation to improve health communication, and diabetes and breast cancer health literacy, an underpinning of competent healthcare and good health status, is nationally and internationally recognized.
